History
Jim Murray Sr. was a salesman for an industrial catalog company for 11 years. During this time, he saw a growing demand for quality sump pumps…leading Jim and Angela Murray to start a business in the garage of their Colgate, WI home in 1958. They designed and built residential sump pumps, which quickly became recognized for exceptional quality and reliability. The demand for their pumps and service soon required moving operations to Mequon in 1963. In 1967, Mr. Murray developed one of the first plastic component upright sump pumps on the market.
In 1983, after 25 years in business, Jim and Angela Murray retired and Jim Murray, Jr. and Joe Murray took over the company as second-generation owners. Jim and Joe decided to expand this unique micro pump company by also marketing other brands of sewage, effluent pumps, and related items to both residential and commercial plumbing contractors in Eastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Jim Murray, Inc. soon became known as the “go to” specialist and trusted source for the answers to all your most difficult pumping problems.
In October of 1990, JMI moved to a 10,000 sq. ft. facility in Germantown, WI, and continued to show steady growth in both sales volume and new customers by providing quality products and outstanding service. As the company marked its 40th Anniversary in 1998, grinder pumps and wastewater pump systems were product lines that helped add to the growth.
The slogan “Your Partners in Pumping” was adopted in 2004 as it marked another record year in sales. In 2008, we celebrated our 50th anniversary adding another slogan in “No Problem” Service, since it is service after all that carried us to this milestone and continues to differentiate JMI from our competition.
In May of 2017, Jim Murray, Jr., and his wife Patti sold the business to Mike Blum – at that time an 11-year veteran of the pump industry. Mike, his wife Aaron and four children, and the growing JMI team are committed to uphold the legacy that began in a Colgate garage over 60 years ago!
In August 2020, JMI moved into a new 25,600 square foot facility also in Germantown. Coinciding with the relocation to the new building, the company began operating under a new name – JMI Pump Systems. The name represents the company’s extensive product offering, trusted service, and unparalleled expertise to determine the proper pump system for an application. We believe the new name pays tribute to our rich history, while providing a better understanding of what we do today and well into the future.
JMI Pump Systems supplies customers throughout Wisconsin and Illinois with the best sump, effluent, sewage, and grinder pumps. We continue to offer innovative pump packaging options, including custom basin covers, using products from the top names in the industry. JMI now offers booster pumps and packages as well! We combine our pump packages with unparalleled service to help you save time and labor, while assuring the highest quality system for your customer. The loyal and dedicated team at JMI will continue to be your partners in pumping for decades to come in the same tradition that we have provided since 1958.
